حواء إدريس من رائدات العمل الأهلي في مصر في الثلثينات وحتى أواخر الخمسينات. انضمت الي حركة تحرير المرأة، وكانت عضوة بارزة في "الاتحاد النسائي المصري" الذي أسسته ابنة خالتها هدى شعراوي سنة 1923 . كونت جمعية "شقيقات الاتحاد النسائي" وتولت رئاستها. اهتمت بمساعدة العائلات في الأحياء الفقيرة والأطفال في الملاجئ، وشاركت في العديد من المؤتمرات الدولية والعربية ممثلة عن الاتحاد النسائي المصري، في الصين والأردن ولبنان والسودان.
Hawa Idris pioneered in social services from the 1930s to the late
1950s. She joined the women’s liberation movement and was a
leading member in the Egyptian Women Union, founded by her
cousin Hoda Shaarawi in 1923. She founded and headed a group
called Sisters of the Arab Union. Idris was especially concerned
with caring for families in poor suburbs, and providing care for
children in orphanages. She represented Egyptian women in
several conferences in China, Jordan, Lebanon and Sudan.
