I received the following message from ah Ahmed Ibrahim who
chose to identify himself as "Captin". I thought it may be
useful to share my response with others.

Dear Capt(a)in Ahmed Ibrahim:
-
I have a few comments to make regarding the
passive aggressive message addressed to me that
copied above.
-
First I apologize for responding in English
since I am not in possession of means to respond
in Arabic here in the USA.
-
I am sorry that you found my writing style
(da3eef). Please be aware of the fact that I may
not be as well educated in languages as you are,
and the fact that I have not used the classical
Arabic (al 3arabi al fassee7) only sparingly
since I left Egypt a few decades ago. As of my
English, it is a third language for me, yet
apparently I know enough of it to be able to
correct the spelling of the name that you chose
for your self (see above.)
Anyway, a person of substance usually looks at
the content of the message rather than the
style. We all know of books written in
ostensibly perfect Arabic, for example, while
they lack any substantial meaning.
-
I can give you a very well know example of this
sort perhaps in a more private message.
-
You
thanked me for "proving" that Islam is a
religion of tolerance even though I did it in a
broken style. I am sorry to differ with you here
since I do not remember discussing Islam as a
religion at all in any of my writings. It would
be very nice if you can support your idle talk
with quotations from my writings. But then how
important is a proof if it comes from a
narrow-minded person like me as you claimed? Of
course you may be aware of the fact that the
rules of civilized and decent discussions do not
include personal attacks. You should also be
aware of the other fact that says that resorting
to personal attacks is an indication of a weak
argument.
-
You
need to know that I have no interest in
attacking Islam. My concern with it is the
extent it is being used to usurp the rights of
my people in participating in the rule of their
own country, Egypt, and the atrocities committed
against my people in the name of Islam.
-
Capt(a)in
Ibrahim, you underestimated the Copts, their
understanding and their suffering when you
described them as "simple minded." It is your
failure to see and know what is going on rather
than the fact that a few words from me, or
anyone else that can "attract their minds" as
you chose to say. The simplest minded among the
Copts certainly knows about what is going on in
your and my country then you seem to know. I do
not need to write a thing to incite or attract
any following, neither am I seeking false
recognition or fame as you so viciously alluded
to. Believe me, I have achieved enough success
in my professional and personal life not to look
for anyone's approval especially if he is
anything like you.
-
If
I am writing about the Copts and their suffering
nowadays it is because I want honest and
concerned Egyptian Moslems who are not aware of
these facts to be informed, and to suggest
solutions, other than your type of Islam, to
pull Egypt out of one of thr lowest points in
her history.
-
You
asked me to "discuss" I do not know what with
one of Islam's Ulama. But I have no need for any
discussions wit your ulama. I know more than
most Moslems do about Islam. Moreover. Islam is
not the subject of my interest anyway. In
addition, what am I going to learn from a person
who is most likely less educated than I am and
of a much less worldly experience?
-
You
do not have to worry about my "respect" for my
(scientific) degree. It is respected myanyone
who knows it and aspires to obtain it. I have
done nothing in my professional, scientific, or
personal life to diminish this "respect." The
"ignorant talk " that you mentioned is certainly
yours since you hurled accusations without a
proof. This is not how (scientific) talk is
conducted.
-
You
then mumbled something about Prince Abdallah
which is as unclear as it is out of context. You
need to think better and express yourself more
clearly and with courage.
-
Your admission being of young age may be right
or wrong, but describing your self as a "simple"
(basseet) person is a different matter. If you
truly are then keep your peace and learn rather
than open your mouth and prove that you are not
up to the task.
-
A
sincere advice to you is never to interfere
between a person and his or her God as you tried
to do asking me to heed God's fear in what I am
writing. My relation with my God is absolutely
and totally up to me and not to anyone else to
stick his nose in. This applies not only to you
but to the failing rule that is witnessing its
last days, we hope, in Egypt.
-
You claim to have Christian friends, and may be
you do. But the fact that you are not aware of
what is going on in their minds reflects one of
many possibilities. They may not trust you as a
person or your intelligence to see what is
obvious, they may have realized that it was
useless to talk to you about their concerns
because of your misconceptions and prejudices,
or they may simply think that you are not worth
it to waste their time with.
-
Capt(a)in, I have not taken the time to respond
to your hogwash because I thought that you were
worth the time. I have done this to address the
millions of your likes who are the result and
the cause of Egypt's failure to produce good
citizens capable of honest and clear thinking,
and are therefore able to identify their
problems and address them properly.
